Sponsored climb of Mt Sinai & Mt Catherine to raise funds for 10,000 Sena Bibles for the people of Malawi

IMPORTANT NOTE! Praise God, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have now reached our target! THANK YOU to all who have given! If you would still like to donate, please note that any funds now received will be put towards a similar Bible publication/printing project - there are quite a few of them coming up! (24th Oct 25)

BACKGROUND: During a recent trip to Malawi to witness the launch of the Lambya Bible, Barry & Steve were also able to meet with TWFTW Malawian colleagues from the Sena people group. Back in 2006, after a 10-year period of translation, the full Sena Bible was published. It was translated by 3 Sena translators who had been trained by Barry & Julia Funnell. Twenty years on and the Sena church is growing - but they’ve run out of Sena Bibles and are pleading for more!

Malawi is one of the world’s least developed countries and its population faces a number of challenges, including limited access to good education and healthcare, and widespread poverty. For the Sena people who live in the south of Malawi, an additional challenge they face is frequent flooding of the Shire River which sometimes wipes out crops and causes damage to infrastructure. Back in 2023 a cyclone caused much devastation in the area, and in the process, 2000 Sena Bibles were destroyed. The Sena church leaders are therefore asking for our help to fund the production of more Bibles. The cost of printing 10,000 Sena Bibles is £48,000 (£4.80 per Bible). With half that cost provided, Steve is seeking to raise the balance of £24,000 by doing a sponsored climb.

WHAT’S THE PLAN? Steve is aiming to climb Mt Sinai (7496 ft) & Mt Catherine (8668 ft), the highest mountain in Egypt, during a visit to the Sinai Peninsula in November (7th-12th). The climb itself will take two days, covering 20 miles.

All the Israelites came near to Moses, and he gave them the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.” (Exodus 34:32).
Just as Moses went up and down Mount Sinai (4-6 times!) to bring God’s law to the Israelites, Steve is committed to going “up and down”
the mountain to help bring more copies of God’s Word to the Sena people of Malawi!
